This video explains how job security requires a strong union and commitment by all members. The issue of “casualisation” is important, since almost half of Australia’s workforce is now casual, and this brings long term uncertainty. The video recounts how Patrick Stevedore sacked its entire union workforce and non-union workers took up jobs at the company’s wharfs around Australia. CSL, a Canadian multinational tries very hard to not employ Australian workers, even going to the Courts to do so and removing Australians’ right to work. Job security can mean being able to get a loan for a house. The unions are prepared to fight these underhanded tactics
